Yeah i was half black born and raised in tokyo... and even in a city where tons of foreigners traveled, people acted like the fact my skin was only a FEW shades darker than them, it was something extremely abnormal 😅 mixed childhood memories both figuratively and literally

I guess that's one plus to living in the US. People segregate themselves here to an extent. But I saw a diverse variety of people in my childhood. People are people. That's an important thing children should learn at a young age.

I saw my first Asian person, or at least recognized them at the age of 5. They probably were all around, but that was the first time I recognized their existence. It was the last race that I identified, so I always feel a sense of newness when I see Asian culture on display. I’m always fascinated! The characters, or kanji, is such a cultural shock, and it exercises the brain when you try to learn it. I hope to fully do it one day. Learn Japanese!!

Me and the fam used to do weekend rides where we would just drop a pin and go. A lot of random towns in Iwate, Akita, and Aomori are still disconnected with their neighboring cities. Most people would be shocked when we just pop up on location, or walking in the store casually buying something like we belong there, not looking like a tourist. Just pulling up in my car with local plates would get a triple take lol. Then we would break the ice by speaking and most never knew there were African Americans living that far up north or that there was even a military installation that far up there. 😂

I saw my 1st Oriental person in real life when i was about 8yrs she looked like no one I had ever seen before, my mind was blown away, i was amazed at her facial features, just amazed and intrigued. So i looked at any Oriental stuff I could see which was not much in the UK around 1984, apart from the odd martial art film which were AMAZING TOO. I am all so intrigued with the Far Eastern People Culture, in many many ways, I even watch videos today of people from China Japan Philippians, and s on, with true wonder going through my mind, the history thy have is amazing, can you imagine the stuff they do not show us, for many different reasons. Even like he old films, Yojimbo, Seven Samurai, Money Magic and so on, and the music as well. I could see myself living in those areas quiet easily. That's my plan.

Another example of consuming Black culture, but not paying any sort of homage to the origins and significance thereof.

Such things matter in quelling racism and contaminated sociopathic thinking.

Glad he got to experience the true degree of social reality that defines one small component of afrocentric contributions to world culture, . ❤

i was in China in 2019 and had those stares and you could tell they don't see black people often. They were very polite and wanted to take a picture. Very different from the U.S. where there is usually contempt.

I’m about his age and, when I lived in Japan, this is how a lot of Japanese associated Black people: Jazz musicians, reggae, etc.

Likewise, for me, meeting different Asians in person ...face to face. 😮😮😮, shocking....but interesting. 😊

Yes Jazz! A great part of our black American culture. I hope he doesn't see the other stuff 😅
