Hi Avid smoker here, I just recently bought my Napoleon Rogue grill with the smoker box. I’ve smoked tons so far and think I have perfected the process. If you need help understanding the best way to use it follow these instructions. I suggest soaking the chips for 30mins-1 hour before smoking. This helps slow the burning process of the chips plus it adds moisture to your grill in which gas usually takes moisture out. Remove the grill grate and the burner plate and Set the box directly over top of the burner of the opposite side (of the meat). This allows your meat to smoke indirectly thus it does not burn or dry out. Now the tricky part is getting your chips to roll a good smoke and to keep your grill at 225 degrees. Light the burner under the grill box and set it to high and close lid until you see smoke come out. Once you start seeing smoke, set the burner to low-mid so it continues to smoke the chips. Now you will have to replace/add the chips in the box every 45 minutes so keep soaking extra chips. Be careful opening the lid to add more chips as it will be hot. Remember to use the burner knob to keep the grill at 225 degrees but a great smoke!! Happy Smoking Yall. Also, I bought two boxes and use two boxes now, better.

grabbed my grill end of season last year at lowes $200 for $800 grill cant be beat. best grill i have ever had but then again my other grills where not $800 grills. this thing cooks about as even as you can get. love love love

Looks like you could do some cold (or at least very low temp) smoking with a dedicated tube or chicken wire tube with pellets inside that box.

Now if I can just find one in Napoleon products are in high demand right now. I'm just glad I was able to get my grill. Piecing together my accessories is proving to be quite difficult.

FWIW, I use wood pellets instead of chips. They are 1000X better than chips in this box. You can smoke for hours with pellets and it's much easier, IMO, to get the smoke started and maintained through a cook.

Question. Do you only lit the burner with the wood chips or do you use the other burners as well in low setting or regular setting? Thanks

I own this thing and I have to say it does a decent job but it’s a bit annoying to replace the chips. I find the chips burn incredibly fast as well, I usually get 20-30 mins of smoke MAX per box even after soaking overnight and having the burner turned down to as low as it goes. Honestly, smoking on a gas grill isn’t even a good idea anyway. I’ve done a brisket and ribs to decent results but I would much rather invest in a dedicated smoker. In my eyes something like a smoker tube with pellets makes more sense. To me the box is just too annoying to add more chips to. Cool concept I just think this is an accessory that I will use less and less as time goes on. Just my 2 cents.

Instructions on the Napoleon website say to place the box on top of a sear plate. The video above shows and states the box replaces a sear plate. Which is it? And if you turn the burner off once the chips are lit should you maintain smoking temperature with just one other burner using indirect heat?

I just bought the RXT525 and the owners manual does not even mention the smoker box. No instruction AT ALL on how to use it, where to place it, whether to remove the sear plate, what temperature is best, chips vs pellets. NOTHING. I drop $900 on a grill and have to go to YouTube for instructions because the manual won't go near the subject? Absolutely lame and totally frustrating.
