FreeBSD's package management system is cool as hell - there's both a binary package manager and the ports system that builds packages from source. In this video I walk through how to get it setup and use it.

I actually like the ports system more than ebuilds in Gentoo. Ports where the reason I moved to FreeBSD in my old laptop. The only rant and bad time about them go to the lack of viable web graphical browsers.... the only options bing Firefox and Webkit "Lightweight" browsers. Firefox uses to update twice per week, and every time it pulls a GCC and Rust recompile with minor version upgrades. That and Firefox adds to ~16 hours compiling in my poor 2005 core duo...

Webkit based browsers are fine by themselves, but the compile time of the bloody Webkit engine is always round the 30 hour mark. Usually my laptop will just overheat and I need to compile it during various days, as I need to pause and continue it every few hours....

I'm trying to find excuses to switch to linux distro and fail at that. Freebsd does all what I what, a little bit of programming, runs steam and games just fine, everyday tasks (I don't print so I don't know how supported printers are). Its a pretty solid os, with linux app compatibility.

well pkgs are fine, but not all packages are compiled to my needs especially wine :) so I use both bins and ports

This is how linux SHOULD have done it from the beginning. This ISNT the same as package manager btw. There isn't always packages available but source is almost ALWAYS available.

use freebsd 12.0 and debian 9.8. first virus of bios, in year 1997. i am 43 years old. i am asperger and minimal shizoprenia. was break cryptografic of 160 millons in 7 seconds. use unix of 22 years. firts computer spectrum. freebsd are good. but have port . lear c and c++, are free. make and make install.with module ip_random(); . cant encryted network of your house but not are legal. oh very good. please make subtiles in spanish.
