I'm starting to study computer science this October with the aim of becoming a software engineer, and... It's not the most "reactionary" job, yet I can't help but see how right-libertarianism seems to be the most popular philosophy in the IT industry. .-'~* cringe *~'-.
Not sure I want to be surrounded by that sort of people for the rest of my life. Any leftie techies here?

One thing people can do is actively seek out ESOP, cooperatives, and other employee owned companies. If the best and brightest seek out a workplace that is based on employee ownership and a democratic corporate governance, then that is a small push toward socialism. While it isn't a be all end all, it does help. I have voted with my feet many times in my career. As a just a lowly, tool and die maker, I have found many opportunities to be an employee owner. This isn't something limited to people with degrees, but is something tradesmen, "unskilled workers", and all the way up to people with an MBA can do.

I really want to be a professor like you or Noam Chomsky, writing radical critiques of North American social injustices and economics. I particularly want to deconstruct the idea of "the West" and analyze the treatment of the Productive World by the Consumptive one.

A great question, but a cop-out answer.
I would say law, academia, unions, and manual labor. Really almost anything except military or police.
