Also, this used to be a simple switch on Mac OS Messages app, in the contact dropdown box. Ever since they ported the iOS version to Mac, it's just as bad as it is on iOS.

Really wished this worked. I'm on iOS 17.5. My wife has an Android Phone and Apple iPad. When she messages me from the iPad, our text conversation gets stuck in iMessage mode and messages no longer go through to her Android. Long pressing on the blue text bubbles do not show an option to send as text, unfortunately.

Totally doesn’t work. When I disable iMessage and try to send a text to anyone it says I have to turn iMessage on.
