Is it even worth it upgrading from an i7-6700K or 7700K to the new 8700K?

Currently running a 6700k and Titan X Pascal. I've been getting the itch to "upgrade" for no reason other than new technology is coming out... I think my best bet would be to shut away the computer component world and not look again for 3-4 years when it's actually worth an upgrade.

just upgraded to a 7700k from a 2600k with gtx 1070. For me it made a hella of a difference. More then frame-rate, although I did get a huge bump, it was how smooth the games ran. 7700k overclocked to 5ghz with 10 year old AIO gives me 83 degrees on load which is still acceptable for me. I freaking love this build.

i7 6700k still gona be monster of CPU for the next 5 years at least. Only difference between 6700k and 8700k is +2 cores, actualy for heavy gaming or long rendering sessions were overall temperatures over time does matter the 6700k is a better choise, water coolers wont keep your CPU below 60º while long game sessions regardless what ppl will say, I dont even want to know how hot the 8700k gets in a summer day where your ambient is +30º probably will reach 80º

I'm still using my old i7 4790 for a MM machine, my gaming machine is now Ryzen powered.

If I was doing an intel upgrade, I'd just jump to the i9 9900k, my son has one and it rocks.

The gpu used is the biggest factor. A nice oc i7 4790k can handle 1080ti no problems.

Would have been good to see an overclocked 1080 ti as it looks like 1070 is the limiting factor in many slides. But at least it says if you have a 1070 then don't bother upgrading.

Currently I have an i5 3570k. I do a lot of video editing and rendering and I know that ryzen is better than intel for that. But I also need to be able to game, so I can't decide if the gaming performance difference between intel and ryzen will remain or do you think games in the future will push for more multi threading? I'm a poor af youtuber trying to future proof my pc the best I can. Will be upgrading in a couple of months most likely (unless the black friday sales are crazy).

At this point I'm struggling to decide between the 7700k and the 1700X. What do you think?

Actually the reason the i7 8700k performs better in some games is that in games it usually runs at 4.6-4.7Ghz boost, which I will ask for the Nth time, why does intel claim 3.7Ghz stock Clocks when the i7 8700k ALWAYS operates at 4.3-4.7Ghz...

I'm still hitting 250+ fps in BF4 on low with the good old GTX 960 and an i7 6700k and I'm still laughing at people in forums who can't even reach 144fps with their i5s paired with high-end GPUs.
