I had church leaders tell me that tithing 10% of my gross income ( not my net after taxes) was just a starting point and Paul’s grace giving was anything additional I wanted to give. That never seemed right to me even when I didn’t know better.

I knew a guy who went to a church and he started getting a tithing letter in the mail from that same church that looked like a some sort of phone bill. Needless to say, he and his family left right after. He said all that church talked about was tithes and offerings. Sad.

The interesting thing about James putting restrictions on the Gentiles to not eat anything strangled is that James was going against the law of Moses by saying that.
Deu 14: 21  Ye shall not eat of any thing that dieth of itself: *thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates,  that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien:* for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
