Maybe one day I can visit my Russian roots, and everything you're doing is helping me. I speak English and German, but this will take me some time.

I would have to be very careful saying this at work and not insult someone with this phrase. I don't want to get an EEO complaint..seriously. Appreciate the phrase.

English words are normally easier and much clear to be pronounced but this is definitely not the case in Russian as the sounds appear to be always lumped together and it is even hard to distinguish the differences. Anyone has the same feeling as me?

This is a bit amusing - the formal version is trickier to say than than the informal version. However, if you're trying to compliment a stranger, the formal way is best.
There must have been many funny situations when learners of Russian got it wrong ... badly wrong, lol !
Thanks for the vid and some good answers to Gerald GallenBeck.

Is formal ever used to show respect when informal might be expected? For example in English an American might say to a young girl, "yes Ma'am." Even though ma'am is typically used with older people.

So if someone used вы in this example, when ты is expected, what would it mean to a native speaker?
