In this video, we will talk about why getting a cybersecurity degree might not be the best choice if you want to save money and get ahead in your IT career. Many people think they need a degree to work in cybersecurity, but that is not always true. Cybersecurity certifications can be a cheaper and faster way to get the skills you need.

Cybersecurity certifications like CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CEH, and others are recognized by many employers. They can help you learn the skills needed to protect computer systems and networks from hackers and other threats. These certifications can often be earned in a few months and cost less than a college degree. Plus, many employers value hands-on experience and real-world skills over a degree.

We will also talk about the job opportunities available to people with certifications. Many top companies hire people with certifications and offer good salaries. Certifications show that you have the skills needed to do the job, and they can help you get promoted faster.

Another important topic we cover is the real-world skills you can gain from certifications. While a degree gives you a lot of theoretical knowledge, certifications focus on practical skills. You will learn how to solve real problems and protect systems from attacks. This hands-on experience is very valuable in the cybersecurity field.

In two words: Employability Framework! As long as we're thinking holistically, we'll be well-positioned.

Entire reason I am going for a WgU degree is the ability obtain certs and a degree. If for some reason you don’t work in IT, you can work at any job that requires a bachelors degree.. etc it’s not just about IT

Thing is, employers want education because being in that environment and taking such classes gives you practical experience (speaking, writing, thinking, social skills). A person that can code but not relate is a wet robot

Should do a video on MBA-ITM vs MSCIA vs MS-ITM. Eyeing the MBA

Great video! I recently earned a bachelors in cybersecurity. I’m currently struggling to finding a role that aligns with my studies. I’m going to take the pentest + to see if that helps. Thank you for your videos

WGU does a great job of doing both… Why not get a degree while studying for the certs they require? Seems like a no brainer to me.

A degree doesn't expire, the certifications do.

My line of thinking is more there is no point in getting a cybersecurity degree when you can get practically the same education from cybersecurity certifications. If you're getting a lot of cybersecurity certifications, you should pursue another degree like computer science, or psychology or whatever interests you.

This is what I was looking for, I am 18 and going for my AAS of cyber at a community college where I’m at since its program is REALLY good compared to Unis in my area. I was going to go go for both and get the BaT of cyber too. Will watch this!

There are employers that look at degree as a form of your dedication and commitment. So if you can definitely get both.

Depends on what you’re trying to do, just work in tech then ok but establishing a career at a senior level then yeah continuing education is absolutely necessary

Usually people that speaks like that comment can't look further out. You're right, it's a very dangerous way of thinking. On top of that speaking with WGU, if you fail any of those certs, you can be able to take it again at least another time for free vs, if you fail taking those on your own, your out that money. This also seems like that person is speaking from a damn echo chamber which is sucker shit in my opinion. If Josh is presenting a tried and true framework, follow it, don't follow some person with vague facts because there's layers to this shit.

Can I get a fully remote SOC job in the USA but work from outside the USA? Will companies allow that?

Hey Josh, I recently got my network+ cert and wanted to know what would be ideal after that. I’m thinking of doing google cyber security and security+ after that and then do your course.

As fas as education is concerned. I have been looking at your training. It looks to be a great approach. I wanted to know if I should get the Google Cyber Security cert first to get more of a foundational knowledge before your course. Or would your course take care of that plus the experience portion? I saw that you have a heavy bend in your course to helping with experience which I found amazing and looks way more comprehensive than Google. So I guess I am wondering yours… or both?
