BMW K1600GTL for a day - compare it to a R1200RT

Today my 2018 BMW R1200RT is getting a 60.000km service. This involves replacing the drive shaft, since last year BMW decided to replace the drive shaft for boxer engines every 60.000km... that's a free swap for existing boxer owners.
Because this takes time, I cannot wait at the dealer, so I get a replacement bike. They reserved a GS, but since I owned a GS before the RT, I asked if the GT was available.

All my life, always rode inline-4 engined sportbikes. Most recently, a CBR1100XX Blackbird, for 90, 000 miles. I love my 2021 RT, already have 24, 000 miles on it. But it took me many miles to get used to the twin-cylinder engine. I love the idea of the 1600 inline-6 engine, powerful and smooth. But I sat on one at the dealer before buying my RT, and it felt too heavy - and so top-heavy. I was sure I would drop it. I now know two guys who bought K1600 bikes for touring with their wives; both of them loved the bike, but also, both sold them within 2-3 years because of the top-heaviness. One switched to an RT, the other, a Triumph Tiger.

Blurring the speed on higher speeds ;-) I ride the RT and I think the boxer engine gives it a good thrill which I could not find in the 6 cylinder engine in the 1600GT. I don't think I will ever switch from the RT, maybe at best to the 1250RT. Thanks for the great video.

Ik denk dat iedereen zo zijn favoriet heeft. Ik rijd nu de K1600GTL en dit is bij far de fijnste motor die ik heb gehad (yamaha GTS1000 Honda GW1500, Triumph Rocket 3 Touring). Wat een super tourmachine die met een draai aan de gashendel zijn 6 cylinders in no time laat veranderen in een super sport. Comfortabel, maar met ook een bijzonder sportief tintje. Een 6 cylinder van BMW was en is een bijzondere machine.

What you describe has always been the difference in feel between a K and an RT from the very first K bikes until now.

Looks like you are using something other than the NAV 6, with obviously some of type of adapter. Can you share the set up please as I’m having constant issues with my NAV 6 and need to go in a different direction on my 2015 RT. TY

Help me out folks . I came off a Goldwing and was going to go 1600. But I’ve heard it’s not very good in the wind, whereas my Wing was outstanding . I’m wondering if the Boxer RT would be a better choice for me .

I do have a 2015 RT fully eq. Very pleased with it but at motorway over 120-130km it starts to vibrate unpleasent. I wait to next year se what it will be, maybe 1300-1400RT? Automatic?

Radio is useless unless you want to have a tailgate party in the garage. You can't hear it above 60kph. Nav system is equally useless, worst system on a bike today. How do I know this, I have a Grand America.

Apeldoorn is best ver als je werkzaam bent in Utrecht. Ik mag niks zeggen want ik breng mijn k1600gt naar simako in Elst en woon in Amsterdam. Niks leuker dan een flinke cruise
