When you were wondering why the skill changed instantly for the child ; Sometime you get a +5 bonus to all skill for the day when the character is inspired and then it wear off at the end of the day. So you saw him at 8 intelligence and then 3 a bit later that was the end of the day.

Children don't get a "age" you can see on their info card until they are 12, and don't become fully controllable until they are 18, though they can start reading books at 12.

However, if you click on the child and then look at their "Log" it'll tell you how old a child was when they made the log entry and what day it was.

By default people age 1 year every 2 day.

With these 2 things in mind, you can figure out how old your under 12 child is.

The upper fertile soil patch can house 4 fields with 90~ efficiency. Don't try to go 100% there as you might only be able to house 3 fields. The below fertile soil patch can house 3 fields with 70~80 efficiency.

I've found it most helpful to build a warehouse first thing, and assign everyone to construction. Then I build the library (get that early research going on rye), tavern, altar, barracks, and extra housing all in the first day, and save the lumbermills and rutabaga for Day 2. I wait to rescue my hostage until the trader has come and gone the first night so I can grab a few more soldiers/weapons/more rings(I like to get everyone's loyalty high early). Try and have (or hire) 2 lords with high management so if one is sick/low needs/in combat another is there to carry the load. Always research, and you've got to teach those kids or late game will get away from you. Upgrade buildings- especially lumber mills as early as you can. Wood is a decent commodity for the market so you can never have too much.

You don't really need a warehouse. They can carry everything to the hall and the market.

It's best not to reward someone until it's their desire...that will give you the biggest boost.

To free a prisoner, draft them into your army then release them. They will then become a normal citizen.

This is the best start: an alliance and a trade of rutabagas.
Also, you probably would not use iron until you construct a building that uses it or a blacksmith that can make weapons.
Bows are important, they hurt the enemy from a distance demoralizing them before entering close combat. Also, you had three armors and used one in a battle holding a minor victory rate.

Click on the crossed swords icon then click the plus and you can move them down form prisoners to your army

IMO slavery is like really efficient and useful for most of the game, especially if you make your building buildings, warehouses, and the hall prisoners, because then they can build for 3 more hours than normal civilians would. Just make sure to have guards patrolling the left side of the map where they would normally leave. side note if a prisoner is escaping you can free them and they will stop escaping to be freed, thus becoming a normal peasant who can still work in your village.

TLDR: slavery is fire(in game) and free escaping prisoners
