As someone finishing up college here are my tips:

- Always always ALWAYYYSSS take free food or clothes. Take every chance you can to eat and hydrate because the last thing you want is to end up in the emergency room for malnutrition.

- Hoodies are your friend. I swear to you no one is going to be paying attention to your outfit and hoodies are just so easy to manage. If you wanna spend the time to look really nice for yourself that’s fine, but I really wouldn’t sweat it.

- Make friends! I know it’s really hard to for some people but just talk to the people around you. Even if you only make one friend, you never know if you’re going to be in an emergency and need someone close by to help.

- Shower when the opportunity presents itself. Sometimes you’ll be so busy or just genuinely forget.

- Set reminders for your homework and don’t set up unattainable goals! If you’re a person who’s just always late and are stressing yourself over perfect attendance, let go. It’s better to pass college without that perfect attendance with a healthy mindset than break yourself over that goal.

- It’s ok to party, but don’t do it all the time. You’re gonna be VERY busy normally and you also just need time for yourself.

- Literally do NOT care about popularity. If you try to make yourself a drama queen or something you’re going to get a HARSH reality check. High school is over, time to grow up.

- If you are working in a group and having problems getting the work done, COMMUNICATE THAT. It’s ok if you are struggling to get your own work done that affects your own grades, but when other people are involved, have the decency to put in effort.

- Go to therapy or get a counselor if you feel like you need it. Your mental health is important and NOTHING is worth going into a depressive spiral for, not even your degree. It’s ok if you want to change that or even change schools. What matters is that YOU are happy with your degree and future career. If you see yourself being happy doing what you’re studying, go for it! If you wake up every day dreading class and not really ambitious about your future, maybe it’s time for a change! You’ll put in effort in things that you love.

- I cannot emphasize this more, EAT. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FEED YOURSELF. Eating one granola bar or yogurt for the whole day is NOT feeding yourself. Eat at LEAST one FULL meal. It’s very easy to get into the pitfall of ‘oh this is great, if I don’t eat I have more time and I’m losing weight in the process!’ NO. That’s NOT what’s going to happen. You’re going to RUIN your body that way physically and mentally. Once again, the last thing you need is a hospital trip in an expensive ambulance! And it’s OK if you gain weight during your time! It’s better to eat whatever you can eat to be ALIVE in college than graduate with a whole slew of health problems because you didn’t take care of your body!

- This is a very easy trap to fall into, but do NOT get into the pitfall that is drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol. Just DON’T DO IT. It is NOT worth your life, your relationships, your career, or anything else! Maybe a drink here or there is fine (OF LEGAL AGE) and say you smoke something once or twice (A LEGAL SUBSTANCE) that’s eh, but just avoid it if at all possible. Seriously.

Lastly, please don’t be afraid to ask for help. No one gets adulting right for at least a good couple years, if there’s even a right way to do it. College can actually be a really fun and amazing time for you. Keep your chin up. C:

Pro tip: always bring a notebook and pen! Just in case your laptop doesn't work/charge/connect to the wifi then you NEED literally any scrap of paper

Some tips from someone who has graduated! ❤️

For ANY class, unless you have assigned seating, sit at the front. You'll be a lot less distracted and will see the board easier (even if it's a projector).

If your classes aren't back to back, try to get to class 5-10 minutes earlier to set up your stuff, grab a seat, use the bathroom, etc. Also helps you establish yourself as a "serious" student.

Buy bulk food and prepare your own meals! College cafeteria food can get EXPENSIVE so save money where you can (this is more for if you live in dorms/on your own)!

Bring clothes that are interchangeable and that can be easily layered so you can do laundry less frequently and have outfits for different seasons. Air your clothes out when you get home/back to the dorm so you can wear them for multiple days (use dryer sheets for smelly shoes)!

Always carry a large notebook even if you have a tablet/laptop in case they die/get left behind (this should be a given, but mechanical pencils, erasers, and ballpoint pens are a must as well).

MAKE FRIENDS OUTSIDE OF YOUR CLASSES! Don't stick with the same people, connections are EVERYTHING when you graduate!!! Go to your common area (resting/study/cafeteria area) and find people who have similar interests.

MANAGE YOUR WORK/PERSONAL LIFE WISELY. KEEP A SCHEDULE.
