I’ve been playing drums for about four months now, and when I bought my first kit (Alesis Command X Mesh) I really didn’t know what I was doing. So now with a few months experience I realize that a quality hi hat is very important, both for feel and sound.
Blkjakk recommended to me the Zildjian L80 Low Volume hi hat cymbals for a more balanced sound to go with my electronic drum kit.

I mounted my new Zildjian L80 Low Volume hi hat cymbals on a DW 5500 hi hat stand and recorded them into my Tascam Model 16 using a Shure SM57 instrument mic.

Hey there! I have an Alesis Nitro and am frustrated with the hi-hat. I’m going to start plugging my module into my lap top to begin recording. How are you recording the hi hat here if it’s actual symbols and not part of the machine? I’m a tech noob so I appreciate any info or direction to resources. Thanks!

Dude this playing at 4 months is really good! You’re trying hi-hat upbeats really early, and I wish I would’ve done that sooner when I stared bc I’m having trouble getting my left foot independent from the rest of my body. Great work
