Miracle on the Hudson: A look back

15 YEARS LATER: On this day in 2009, US Airways Flight 1549 made an emergency landing on the Hudson River in New York City with no fatalities following a bird strike shortly after takeoff.

Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger became a hero and a household name.

Here’s a look back at what became known as the "Miracle on the Hudson" — 15 years after the fact.

He did a great job. Years of experience's and the river calm came in overall to handy, NSTB tried to fell him with recreate the scenarios in a flight simulator with other pilots they had 18attempts actally and made it but when taken off the 38sec they wouldn't have made it back to any nearby airport. Sully knew. He did the right decision ever!!!

This is a perfect example of a person with decades of time on task, showing the value of their training and experience. Captain Sully has said that it was his decades of preparation that enabled him to operate in that moment. I’ve also read that he has flown gliders for a long time too and that helped him fly the jet-turned-glider on that day in January. It was an amazing accomplishment.

Imagine all those on the ground. They all thought it was gonna be another terrorist attack. But we’re relieved in knowing that it wasn’t, and that the people in the plane were alive.
