Airfix: Surprise Announcement! Avro Anson Mk.I (1:48 Scale)

Although not as glamourous as its younger and larger sibling the Lancaster, Avro's Anson or 'Faithful Annie' was no less valuable to the Allied war effort during WWII. It was estimated that at least 100,000 crews spent time training in Ansons prior to being posted to operational front line squadrons.

Not such a surprise just Airfix being big on hype and marketing again. This is nothing but a reboxing of Airfix's 2022 new tooling release of the Avro Anson Mk. I with new decals. With the exception of the RN livery, the other liveries are a bit obscure, but each to their own. I have the original release of this model kit which at least had a Royal Australian Air Force livery.

Now, if Airfix would only improve the engineering and fit of their model would be a REAL SURPRISE!!! Airfix have improved their quality over the years but they still have a long way to go, yet they charge a premium price for their model kits comparative to their competitors who produce better engineered and better fitting model kits with much more detail. Yes, Airfix have been a mainstay of the modelling community since I was a boy but, with a very few recent noted exceptions, it would be nice if they joined us in the 21st century and deliver what others have been doing for over 10 years. 🙄

Well as long as we’re asking for things; Dear Airfix Santa, really would like a 1/48 Gloster Gauntlet to go along with that beautiful Bulldog. While you’re at a new tool Hawker Fury Mk1 would be lovely as well. Thank you.

If the surprise had been, "Airfix announced 1/72 New Tool Avro Anson!" I would be impressed.

Anyway. How's the 1/48th Whirlwind 10 coming along?

And it’s things like THIS that make me believe that Airfix are my favourite company on the planet. Not many corporations deliver nothing but happiness.

If Airfix announced the release of new tool 1/72 Hawker sea fury FB.11 or Avro Anson Mk.1 it’s perfect.

As somebody who has it in their stash. Is there any chance of offering the decal sheets for a set price similar to the RNLI Lifeboat additional sheet ?

I agree re the 1/72 Anson, but, being keen on RN aircraft I will not be able to resist that new scheme.

FYI... The full-size Anson flying in New Zealand has been sold to the Czech Republic...

A 1/48 airspeed Oxford mk2 would be a nice stable mate along with the Lysander? 1:05 1:05 1:05 1:05
