Thyroidectomy

Показать описание
Thyroidectomy is recommended at different ages for patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2A (MEN2A) and type 2B (MEN2B) due to the high risk of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC):

- **MEN2A**: Thyroidectomy is generally recommended by age 5 or earlier if there are elevated calcitonin levels or if the specific RET mutation indicates a high risk.

- **MEN2B**: Thyroidectomy is recommended very early, usually within the first year of life, often before 6 months, because of the extremely high and early risk of aggressive MTC.

The timing of surgery is determined based on genetic testing, calcitonin levels, and family history.
