Solo Boat Launch - Boat Ramp Champ - Wheel Chock

Показать описание
If you launch your boat by yourself, a wheel chock can be useful. At the boat ramp it can be easy to forget to retrieve your wheel chock, or it might get run over by your boat trailer. To prevent those things from happening, I tie my wheel chock to my tow vehicle and then I don't lose my chock or run it over with my trailer!

Everyone always looks at me funny using the wheel chock. Nice to see someone else is doing it too and the rope is a cool trick

I do this too as both of my tow vehicles have manual transmissions.

You don't have to explain anything to these couch potatoes, happy boating capt. Keep it safe

My dad had the same thing! One time said hey watch it as we were driving away. And the damn them jumped into the bed of the truck. Now as an adult I understand what happened then and he got lucky! 🍀 😅

I drive stick so I use a chock. I also put the truck close to the curb and cut the wheels. The idea being it will hit the curb in a brake failure

I like the idea of having all my brakes on when I'm out of the truck launching. I cut a stick of 3/4 inch pvc pipe with a tee on one end to jam the brake pedal down. it wedges between the pedal and the front seat. Works pretty good.

it really helps when you drive a stick shift. being disabled, it's a bit of a challenge to jump off the brake to mash the clutch and shift into 1st then let it out before my truck goes swimming. i would often end up spinning the wheels or stalling the engine.

Used to launch with an old Ford p/u with a stick that I was too scrared to use the ebrake on. Chock with a rope under the front tire to keep it from creeping down the ramp. Pull the chock in the cab as I pulled out of the water.

I usually just leave it in 4x4 low, and set the parking brake and put it in park. Park gear should lock the front too?

Are you can put the transmission in park or you could use the emergency brake

Can you recommend a place in the area for a newbie trot line crabber to go with a small boat.

Is that a steep boatramp? And what about putting your car in P or use the E-brake?

We dont have a traditional boat trailer, its a pond prowler 10 on a utility trailer lol, so launching is a matter of manpower

If that's your boat ramp, then mine is terrible. It is quite a bit more steep. I use the emergency brake and feel comfortable. As a kid we had an old 79 chevy without a E brake and my dad was loading the boat. Well the truck decided to jump out of gear and luckily i was sitting in it and hit the brake. Moral of the story we needed a wheel stop.

I’ve seen someone do this. The wheel chock bounced up and smashed his rear window.
