Hermeneutics Patristic and Pre Reformation Interpretation
Показать описание
Part of a series of videos on hermeneutics (how to interpret the Bible) by Dr. Joe Sprinkle, in the section on the history of hermeneutics. This lecture shows how the Bible was interpreted allegorically by the Alexandrian School, and more literally by the Antioch School during the Patristic period, and how subsequently allegorical interpretation came to dominate the church in the middle ages. Also in Judaism mystical interpretation (the Cabala or Kabala movement) and midrashic interpretations were common. But among some Jews and Christians (the Abby of St. Victor, Nicolas of Lyra, Rashi, Ibn Ezra) a more grammatical-historical approach ("literal" interpretation) prevailed, and this movement would influence Luther and the Reformation.
