Jake was from Ponca City, Oklahoma and worked for the post office. Most locals never realized he was the epitome of a warrior. He was the basis of the movie “The Dirty Dozen”.

I was an Army sergeant, and in Iraq I had soldier that was always in trouble. He never shaved, was always late to formations, partied a lot, rowdy as hell and my platoon sergeant wanted me to start chapter (discharge) paperwork on him. I always knew he would be a great soldier to have in our side. He was so badass and fearless. He was from Alabama I think of him Everytime I pass thru ‘Bama!

A lot of men in the paratroopers were like this. My grandfather was a sergeant in the 101st during WW2 and joked about how he got demoted every time they came off the front lines. As soon as they got ready to go back to the fight, he was magically back to his old rank.

We call these men heroes. Combat is for men like this. They are hell to be around in peace time. An inspiration in combat. God bless them.

These are the type of guys you never want in peace time. And mighty thankful when times are bad. Guys like this win wars. Desk clerks don't.

Went to church with him in Ponca City when he was in his 80's. He signed several books for us. He was still quite a character. Loved that guy!

I read a brief bio of this dude a while ago. He was a straight up hardcore badass….. the kind of guy you want fighting next to you … not facing you.

Somebody should look into doing a movie about them, maybe Clint Eastwood would make a fine director for it

Am in shock here. I met a man who told me about their Mohawk hair cuts, & warpaint they put on in his squad. 101st Airborne squad.
