Professional mountain bikers are role models to many of us, but that doesn't mean you should be copying everything that the do to the letter! Here are seven things that pro MTBers do that you should try to avoid.

Changing tyres frequently is expensive and bad for the environment, pros actually make a lot of sacrifices by dedicating their whole lives to going faster, even the most eco conscious racer might drop a tear off or gel wrapper during a race, looking pro won't make you any faster, the speed tuck is best reserved for motorway sections of downhill tracks, and don't get pissed off with your bike!

The pros walk and inspect features before they hit them, we should all do that. Prevents injuries and boosts the confidence. Definitely top tips all of them in that video .

Seriously. Don’t litter on the trails.

Stop obsessing over becoming faster or not being as fast as someone else. Don't stress. Remember: We ride for our own pleasure. So focus on enjoying the ride and trust the process.

The tuck is actually pretty useful when bombing a fireroad when especially when it's windy. Wouldn't do it on the trail tho.

You mean I should stop dressing like Tahnee Seagrave with my 6 foot 5 male body?

As a kid I saw a pro mountain biker on TV and he did this huge jump off a boulder, so being the very wise child I was, I took my bike and headed to the first play I knew there was a big rock, long story short I got a concussion and 5 stiches on my forehead.

Luic Bruni for example had mental coach since 15 years old. He was preparing for being the best since a little kid. Insane.

I should have started mountain biking when I was 16 instead of waiting until I was 60!

Just remember, pros can get new parts and bikes at damn near a moments notice. You can't and it costs you.

Knowing the limits of your budget and commitment is super important. I have so far ignored any advice about tires and just ridden my bike with the ones that it came with. The advice suggested I'd be doomed going from the flats of IL to the mountains of NC. Nope. I had my favorite day on a bike ever.

Don't try imitate your fave GMBN presenters when you don't have the skill to do so. It'll only end in tears!

Regarding the tuck, I don't do a full tuck but enough so that my forearms are horizontal during a fast rough decent. It reduces the effects of shaking on the muscles in my arms. There is less movement length wise of the forearms and more of a pivoting action about the elbow which is less violent.

I always remind my mountaineer and mountain biking peers, animals are allowed to litter on the trail, humans are not.

yeah, changing almost new tyres during MTB or dirt bike enduro races was puzzling me always, what a waste... I change my tyres when I see the tubes ;)

I'm riding with a fullface helmet, no matter what I'm actually riding - except for short road biking stages of course. Pros only choose the fullface helmet for downhill, whereas enduro and XC can be dangerous as well
