Nice one, Martin.
Pressure to ride like someone else when you're not feeling it. I've crashed a few times because of this. Riding at your own pace and capability is safest, of course.

I‘d add „don‘t try to just stop in sterp terrain“. You will likely not be able to reach the ground with your foot and step into the void. Make a 90 degree turn so that you can drop the inner foot safely.

Night mountain biking might be a nice video. I pedal at 3 AM due to less road traffic and other issues on the trails. It is exquisitely beautiful, even with snow, chunky ice and slick invisible ice.

A few random mistakes made by many people who are new to disc brakes (in approx order of commonality):
1. Pulling the brake lever when there's no rotor, or worse brake pads, between the calipers.
2. Contaminating your brake rotors by unnecessarily handling them or getting oil, polish etc on them while cleaning.
3. Not paying attention to your brake rotor clearance when putting your bike in a rack (the type that pinches the tyre), sometimes they can be tall enough to ding your rotor.
4. Branding yourself with hot rotors after a long descent.
5. Not removing your brake rotors when flying with a bike (they're easily bent by baggage handlers when attached to your wheels).

I will share some Personal thoughts, The pandemic created an Enormous Cycling Community, yet majority of the Riders dont have a proper Etiquette and Good Behavior an local Trail!.. #1 throwing trash on the trail(take ur garbage Home)#2 dont stop or Park in the middle of Trail#3 riders Creating a Detour (illegal trail), trail builders design the Features intentionally (u are ruining it), #4 is are newbie and u ride sloe, if u notice someone in ur back who fast, learn to lean right(let him pass 1st)#5 stop shreding ur wheel everytime (u are destroying the Trail), dont forget trail builders and Volunteer, put an Enormous amount of time to construct it, so Respect!.

I think the biggest thing I have seen from new riders is staring at the floor in front of you and not looking ahead down the trail.

There is only one exception to no stopping on trails I can think of. If someone goes down and is properly hurt then you stop and where at all possible stand on the trail in a visible location to wave down and stop any riding that trail. They won't be pissed, we understand the seriousness of such an action. If need be, use your bike to make a clear blockage on the trail to alert and divert traffic and make some noise too.

I'm relatively new to mountain biking after years of road biking and I really appreciate these "beginners" tips. This is an entire new riding world for me. It's really fun but definitely a challenge.

Martyn I do another version of death-gripping, where I squeeze the grips too hard (out of adrenaline) and prematurely exhaust my hands, usually in very rough sections.

This is extremely helpful. Especially the bolt check. Never once occurred to me to check these regularly.

As someone who started riding in the last month, this has been fairly useful, especially the covering the brakes as am exceptionally prone to death gripping 😂 though, I'm on the brakes half the time anyway 😂

My rear bolt loosed once, and made the derailleur didn’t work properly. Fortunately I found it and got it back to position before I went down the trail. 😄

If you are new rider, you should double check your tires. I mean the pressure, knob condition and the tire material. I learn these from unwanted way 😊

Never ride on an empty stomach, or a full colon.

Im relatively new to mtn biking. Ive been blessed to ride in sedona, downieville, and Tahoe so far. My biggest piece of advice for beginners is: Look up at the trail, not down. you must see what is coming to be able to traverse it. TRUST your bike. It will roll over almost anything besides trees. And finally, have fun. Falling is a part of this sport. It is inherently dangerous. If your scared of falling. Wear knee pads, armor, and a full face. Just beware of heat and plan accordingly.

A common thing I’ve seen is new riders pointing their knees in towards the saddle, I did this a lot myself when I started thinking it was more comfortable but in reality it makes squashing jumps, pumping, cornering etc quite a bit harder, and you also can look quite silly, learn to keep your knees straight out in line with your pedals and if you are going round a corner point your knees in the direction you want to go, this will automatically drop your inside knee making you more stable and in control

You should definitely add over preparing for a ride and carrying more than you need. I’m a nightmare for it
