I just had a realization of why it’s so difficult for me to properly ground myself. I used to count the ceiling tiles when I was anxious in school and I was always reprimanded for “being distracted” or “daydreaming.” I was basically conditioned to believe that grounding is wrong by my teachers.

Lately Ive had really bad anxiety and heart palpitations. Its scary. I notice these grounding techniques do help. So does talking about it. The very act of writing in the comment section for example..

I’ve always had anxiety, but recently it has become extremely severe and it interferes with everything I do. It’s to the point where I have anxiety attacks daily and sometimes it feels like they last the entire day. In case that wasn’t bad enough, I have Tourette’s, which if you didn’t know, get’s worse with any strong emotion, especially anxiety. It feels like a downward spiral because I get anxious, start ticcing more and wonder if people are giving me weird looks and even if I’m not in public it still makes me more anxious, and then because I get more anxious I tic more and get more anxious and so on. A lot of nights I can’t even sleep because I’m ticcing so much. I don’t know what to do
