Just goes to show how good modern, enzyme-based detergents are. The idea behind these “boosters” is to raise the pH (make it more alkaline) which break down proteins, greases, etc. There are products called “breakers” used in commercial laundries, they work mostly the same way, but much more caustic. They’re almost drain cleaners and operate on the same principle….raise the pH to break down organic matter. This is all old-school stuff, no longer used in the home. Once phosphates were banned, everyone moved to enzymes. They operate more slowly, but are very very effective with minimal damage to the clothes and low environmental impact.

Hey, try it with no detergent. See what one of those products can do on their own.

Thank you, this was an excellent experiment and helped me see the difference between these cleaners, which I had been wondering about. Appreciate it!

Borax is good to use if you have hard water. Also, Tide overall may be better but it does have a lot of chemicals and heavy fragrance.

That’s a really neat washing drying machine

1/2cup of vinegar will get the soap bubbles out and I use Peroxide to get stains out. I spray the stain, let it sit for a couple of minutes then wash it. Clean!

idk for staining but ive always added baking soda for odour removal. i find it does work especially when its soaking. i wonder if borax or washing soda also has odour removal properties

After much research and testing, I use sodium tripolyphosphate. It is hands down the best laundry booster I've used.

Try repeating the exact same test with OxiClean. One thing you showed is that something with a red dye in it is the worst and then grape juice. I think borax seems the best. Another test I need to know is if you buy a shirt that has a high quality print on it, what can whiten the white without harming the print.

Does is make a difference if we just add them all together?
What’s your go to laundry booster or mix of products?

Had no idea you were back ❤️ Can you test the arm and hammer free powder sometime? I’m still looking for an alternative to tide free powder. I’m using Ariel powder bc of you btw. I love how it cleans and it’s so affordable but I prefer unscented

Did you ever end up testing Biz? If so, did you find it to be useful?

And I think a detergent with activated oxygen bleach (which means it has to be a powder, like tide ultra oxi) would remove the stains even better!

Wow, I was not expecting this. You should to it again with a cheaper detergent. Because I was expecting those laundry boosters to do better.
