For someone new to fly fishing you did great, no need to apologize for anything ! You caught fish your first time out, and that is what matters ... I applaud you taking up the challenge. I noticed many good suggestions, I would add when you strip in your line to retrieve your fly, keep your rod tip very close to the water ... within 2 to 3 inches. I started a You Tube channel to share some of my knowledge on fly fishing, it is "Fly fishing 4 the Rest of Us". Everyone who posted that they want to try fly fishing, just go out and do it ... don't wait, life is short.

Keep your rod pointed at your fly the entire time. Lower your rod tip closer to the water. Keep your line taught with as little slack in it as possible. What fly line are you using?

Glad to see you out there trying something you are not super comfortable with on video, that can help others interested in the sport, as they can see that it isn't as easy as some can make it look, but it isn't as hard as others can make it look either. You caught fish and that is a good day with a fly rod in anyone's book.
As others have said, and like in anything else, practice makes things better and it wouldn't hurt to allow someone to give you some guidance and instruction in person if you ever want it. I live in the same area as you, just a few miles away near Bon Secour, if you ever want to get together for an a lesson or two let me know. I may not be good looking enough to put on camera, but we can take some time to help you with some simple things to get you a bit more comfortable with things. From one Vet to another, thank you for your service and tight lines.

When I first started casting as a young kid, my dad put an ace bandage on my casting wrist. I’ll be honest, it kinda hurt a bit. But it taught me not to bend my wrist while casting. It makes such a big difference with accuracy and control.

Fly fishing in the lagoon in the ‘80’s with an under weight fly rod I hooked a big ugly. He destroyed the reel & broke my rod but I did eventually land him by the hand line method lol.

your line looks really really new....i would stretch it a little bit as you pull out some it will help with those wrap ups and casting

I have been fly fishing for 40 years +, and can offer tons of advice. I noticed a few things immediately. When retrieving your fly line, put it under your index (trigger) finger, and leave it there. This is your line's brakes, when manually hauling in a fish. And pull line with your free hand, behind the reel.
Learn to set the hook using the Strip Strike method. Where you are stripping the line in, by hand, when a fish strikes the fly, you continue with same strip (just harder) and set the hook! Once set, you can lift the rod, for leverage. If you miss the hook set, the fly is still in front of the fish, and it may hit it again!
Versus the OLD fly fishing method, of lifting the rod and fly to set the hook. This often pulls the fly line and fly, completely out water (if you missed the hook set). And if you do hook a big fish, or fast fish, they can often snap your leader, on the first run. Because you are not ready for their initial run!
Practice, practice, practice casting.... at home, in your clean yard. You will concentrate on casting. NOT fishing! Remember this, where ever you point the rod tip, is where the fly line is going to go!
Good luck Padawan! And welcome to a new addiction!

Get that back cast behind you before you send it forward again. When you bring your cast behind, almost stop your arm for 1 Mississippi before throwing forward again. This will help the line catch up and improve accuracy. Good job 👍

You should try using a sinking tip line with a Clouser for saltwater fishing for better results, but as you discovered, you still catch a lot of fish when fly fishing.
