Remembering: Selena Quintanilla

March 31st will mark 25 years since rising Tejano music star Selena was murdered by her fan club president, and so many hopes and dreams were cut short.

But her legacy is still growing, with a Selena tribute concert featuring Pitbull set for May in the Alamodome and a series based on her life is due out on Netflix later this year.

So why is there still such a fascination? And why are so many young people becoming fans of a woman who died before they were born?

Well, I got an up close look at the phenomenon of Selena as I shot a number of stories on Tejano music and on Selena herself. I interviewed her several times and shot footage of her in concert and in the studio recording her music.
