Post COVID-19 Condition: Post Exertional Malaise 

Session Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to: identify the impact of Post Exertional Malaise symptoms among patients with Post COVID-19 Condition, and their families; describe appropriate steps for diagnosis and management of Post Exertional Malaise symptoms; and integrate CAN-PCC Guidelines for Post COVID-19 Condition Post Exertional Malaise symptoms and management into healthcare practice.

GT2: 

18. Should questionnaires versus no questionnaires be used in people with suspected post COVID-19 condition who have Post Exertional Malaise (PEM)/Post Exertional Symptom Exacerbation (PESE)?     
 
GT3: 

3. Should activity, movement, or exercise-based interventions versus no activity, movement, or exercise-based interventions be used in adults with confirmed post COVID-19 condition who experience post-exertional malaise (PEM) or post-exertional symptom exacerbation (PESE)? (research recommendation) 
 
4. Should activity, movement, or exercise-based interventions versus no activity, movement, or exercise-based interventions be used in adults with confirmed post COVID-19 condition who do not experience post-exertional malaise (PEM) or post-exertional symptom exacerbation (PESE)? 
 
5. Should rest/pacing versus no rest/pacing be used in people with post COVID-19 condition and subgroups of post exertional malaise (PEM)/post-exertional symptom exacerbation (PESE)? 
 
GT4: 

5. Should cognitive behavioral therapy in addition to pacing (energy conservation) versus no cognitive behavioral therapy be used in individuals with post exertional malaise (PEM)? 
 
Good Practice Statement: 

Health care professionals should ensure that there is a plan of care decided with persons who present with symptoms associated with post COVID-19 condition (PCC), including options for follow-up or additional support for persisting or relapsing symptoms.
