Welcome back to the Dream Automotive YouTube channel!

On March 24th 2023, Honda took to the 'ring in an FL5 Civic Type R to break the FWD Lap Record and were succesful! They set a staggeringly quick time of 7:44.881 on the 12.9 mile track, which equates to a 7:39.691 on 12.8 mile long track! 🤯👏

The previous champion was the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R, which set a 7:45.39 back in 2019. The FL5 Civic Typ R is also faster than its slightly older brother, the Civic Type R FK8. To compare, the FK8 set a 7:43.8 on the 12.8 mile long track.

We're extremely happy to see Honda reclaim the Nurburgring record in the FL5, this insanely quick time has made us incredibly excited to jump into tuning and modifying our FL5 even further!

What a lap from the epic FL5 banging it was looks very bouncy, but it also looks stable. Beautiful great work, Honda great work, Phil talking us through it

The key thing to mention here is the driver who is a master at trail braking.

Note also that he leaves a delay of 10ths of a second between going from the brake and onto the throttle. This is done to create a hint of oversteer which straightens the exit of the corner.

You will notice the grip circles on the G meter, it goes up to 1.0+ G under braking then a round circle to lateral G in the corners, which is exactly what you want and utilises the grip of the tyres. This is how you get scores of 85+ on the cars read out for grip utilisation.

Why does this video remind me of Star Fox on the SNES every time Phil popped up

what do you think about the higher boost and shorter 5th and 6th gears over the actual current production model? You think they will act to this or or could be a legit difference since they now clame this to be the Type R S?

I wonder if having the suspension in sport would’ve kept the car from bouncing as much. Be good to watch an fk2 and fk8 go round with cup 2 tyres.

Amazing driving for sure but I’ll stick with my fk8.

Either way straight or not straight still an epic lap and a great track car I mean they went to town on the Megan to make it that fast I see nothing wrong tbh I'd just like too see wot lap time the actual road going car

They estimate a time difference of only 0, 12 sec. for the longer distance but a difference of 4, 11 sec. for the shorter distance....am i missing something here? (between fk8 and fl5)

♡♡♡Well this aged badly

Not even the same car according to Honda record set by fl5 "S grade". Lighter, no a/c, no parking sensors, no electric adjustable mirror systems etc.

●●Some journalists estimate fl5 s grade to be around 385 hp with separate coolant system and bigger boost. This was reasonably disparate from the fk8 cycle; having reported same wright at nurburgring and production and same max boost levels.

Honda cheat in gears ratio, Boost, tyres and Weight, too Bad, They made a version to reach that time apart from their stock version
