It really depends on your knowledge and experience. A new bike can be a scam and an old bike can be a gold mine.

im 47yrs and just bought my first bike a 2001 gsxr 750 for $750 and put $3000 into it installing everything new in my garage, brakes, tires, fairings, radiator, stator, levers, battery, paint, grips, etc.. now the bike is worth about $6000.. been riding it around big bear with my "learners permit" and will hopefully take the intermediate 1day msf course in a week or two. i dont think ill ever get used to reving it out to 14, 000 rpms, its just wild. to GOD be the glory!

I Love that video Spunky. You described me to a tee in regards to my 2011 ZX10R.

I got my bike from a salvage yard. I didn’t have an owner to ask question’s rather to buy it or not buy it.

My ninja had 9, 470 actual miles on it. After it was dropped off by carrier I peeled the skin off (plastics). The hoses look great, fluids needed changing, and rash was obvious.

That was two years ago in August. This is the second anniversary Year. Now I’m doing sprockets, chain, rotors, brakes and discs.

Dude everyone compliments that bike. Few people even thinks it’s a new bike.

I’ve got every receipt from parts I bought since owning it. The folder book holding my receipts is 1” thick.

All my parts are genuine oem. I don’t use rider aids except getting caught in the rain. I like my 1000cc as whole power.

This bike has allowed me use my tools again and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Great subject Spunky and I am never selling this bike. It’s become my dream bike replacing 2006 Honda RC51 dream bike.

Lots of Love to you Spunky. Keep them wheels rolling Brotha. Peace ✌️✌️✌️

Met a dude with an 07 gixxer that he bought new and he kept it totally stock! It was a cool bike but he said that it's virtually impossible to get oem parts for it now.. really the biggest disadvantage of an older bike

I plan to buy from the stealership when prices lower because I'm not mechanically inclined. I can fix it if I watch a tutorial video but what I've learned from owning an older truck is that knowing how to fix something isn't the biggest problem, identifying what's broke is. At least with a brand new bike I know everything that's been done and when and that'll narrow down what breaks when it does

This is a really timely video, I’m looking for my first liter bike myself. I have some good looking 07 gsxr 1000’s around 6k in my area. I’ve had all of my bikes used a 17’ cb300f and a 06’ CBR600RR. The cb had 3k miles and rode great it never gave me any problems at all. I did all the work on it myself only things it ever needed was oil changes and one tire replacement in my 7 months owning it. My Cbr had 30k miles and it was great running never needing anything but brakes and oil changes, it was awesome. I think the gsxr 1000 is a great value, i really like them nearly as much as the old r1 and cbr1000. This is definitely gonna help me in my buying search, great video.

Bought an '04 Yamaha R1 for ~$4000 USD a few weeks ago. Some of the fairings have *very* slight scratches and scuffs and the tank has a dent +rust patches. The guy I bought it from only had it a few months and he had no history of the bike. BikeFacts showed it'd been written off a couple of times, but the frame is true/straight and the motor runs great. Starts every time. 2K kms so far and not a single hickup. Only issue is that the throttle is sticky when full locked to the left and the clutch seems like it's on its way out. But for $4000, I'm still happy with the purchase.

A lot of good info packed in this video!
Also this is why the BMW S1000RR HP4 Race is still out here straight up bullying these newer gen bikes no problem. I’ll take a raw bike over a newer bike with a million bells & whistles any day of the week…Plus in *my opinion*, they just look a hell of a lot better. Don’t get me wrong, there are some absolutely beautiful newer gen bikes out here in today’s time, but man, the older gen sport bikes just do it for me, personally.
Awesome video dude!🤙🏽

No ABS, traction control, wheelie control, rider modes, euro restrictions etc. These bikes come with minor restrictions but they're dead simple to bypass. Parts are cheaper, easier to install. Valves stay in clearances for much longer and hardly (if ever) need adjusted at least on old GSXRs. I have an 03 GSXR1K and have learned everything I know by tearing it apart and putting it back together. My buddies with newer bikes always taking it to the dealer, having to wait on diagnostics etc. Here I am doing an oil change in an hour, paying less than $60 for OEM Suzuki full synthetic oil & a filter. They're dead simple, and insanely reliable. I don't care if your S1000 smokes my dinosaur, I'll be out having fun riding every day when your bike inevitably throws a code or leaks and needs to sit in the dealer for 2 months 😂

This video is spot on. I’m horsepower junkie since way back, raced quads, banshee drag bikes, dirt bikes, had a 96 CBR 600 F3 senior year of high school and been out of street bikes for 20 yrs prolly except riding my buddies bikes GSX’r’s 750/1000 busa etc… but out the blue on market place I seen a dude selling a not running 2000 R6 and at least this dude was honest and wasn’t a tech by any means. It had a few small issues with the bike but ended up going back and fourth with em and got the super clean ass R6 for 1300.00$. Fixed all the querks on the bike and was eating ass on the thing same night I bought it after a couple hours fixing couple little things and it runs killer

I landed a job making $20/hour and i have been so nervous on whether ill be able to learn to ride due to manually shifting of gears but watching women ride bikes is my motivation. I know it sounds crazy as a man lmao but listen im so excited now. Knowing the prices of bikes i feel confident i can buy my first one after a few months. I want to save up around $4000-$5000 just in case i need to work on it bc i know with older bikes something will be wrong with it!

Thanks for this video!

I have an 05 R1. Mint condition. Key is maintenance and not ignoring problems. Also it's not a track bike. Treat them well and they'll return the favor.

Hell yeah!
Spunky Boyy is clearly an #OldSchoolBikeLover
Hahaha!
I’m the same team bro.. I like to wrench and learn..
Yes, sometimes could get a bit expensive, but God! The experience and ride something that you “fix/rebuilt” it’s absolutely worth it!!

I’m totally in love with the bikes with no technology at all..

Excellent video bro!
Cheers!

I bought a K4 GSX-R 750 2 years ago. I've went front to back on it. I know so much about it now. It was in pretty rough shape. I'd trust it to go wherever. And I don't owe a dime on it. Maybe around 5.5k in it, not counting my time, and doing the one thing I hate, electrical diagnosis and repair.

I'm learning how to revive a 1992 CBR600F2 & ride on this bike. It was between the F2(non-running) or a running 1993 CBR1000F(1KF ghosted me) . Alot of lessons have come with buying this bike. Broken starter gear boss that was poorly JB Welded then snapped & destroyed the reduction gear, starter motor teeth & stator cover. I love the simplicity & style of the '90s. I'll probably get a '99-'00 F4i or '90s ZX6R next.

I got my rs660 brand new and I dont regret it. Its a way better feeling to know about its up keep from day one because bad upkeep on a bike can cost you your life if it malfunctions bad enough
