Thank you for the step by step information. People may tease you about explaining every step, but this is exactly what my brain needs so that I learn. I'm about to try this!

I'm glad my water heater wasn't that bad and crudded up when I had the same issue. I had continuity on both elements though, and they weren't broken when pulling them out, so I suspect the problem was with the upper thermostat. Regardless, I bought one of those kits like you showed at my local hardware store for $40. At that price, you might as well replace both elements and thermostats on a 240v heater. Its been working well ever since with no breaker tripping.

Lex you’re the man, I’m going to check the heating elements….thanks for an amazingly informative video. Off to go help a 90 yr old person who has not had hot water in 2 weeks and she couldn’t get a plumber to show up.

Worked for Sears service from 75-90 and did hundreds of element change outs. 90% of time tank would not drain from calcium buildup so had to change out full. State industries had a element called the sand hog that could operate in hard water with tanks full of calcium. Most of the heater elements had a 4 bolt flange and were a little tricky to install with water in the tank. I don't miss working on water heaters!

Thank you! I must admit, the beginning of the video was unstable from holding the camera in your hand. It was difficult for me to view, so I moved on to other online videos. I eventually came back to yours and skipped ahead to the portion where the camera was stable. I am so glad I did! Your video is super helpful and I really appreciate your efforts. I’m sure there are others that are not sensitive to the video motion (I become ill like motion sickness) and it won’t bother most folks at all. It’s a great tutorial, and I recommend others stick with it. I appreciate you’re extra emphasis on important details, and your thorough approach to avoid water damage in your home. Thanks again! You’re wonderful! :)

Thanks for the video. I installed my water heater about 7 years ago but we live in an area with extreme calcium, etc.. I just had a water softener installed that removes calcium and a bunch of other things. Of course our water is great now but the water heater is beginning to trip the breaker every now and then. I was getting ready to put in a new water heater until I saw your video. This beats changing the entire water heater all over again. I'm sure my elements look like yours did, if not worse. With the new water treatment softener and our water being very good, the new elements should (hopefully) hold up for a while. Great job. Thanks again. 👍
