My grand mom's family still lives in India but she migrated with her in laws to Pakistan. Her last wish was to met her brother in India but could not realize it. She is no more now( May her soul rest in peace!). Imagine a girl whose parents had died in her childhood and she had the only brother in whole universe and partition had stanched him as well.

The story of India 's partition and the killings should be studied by students all over the world. It's an important lesson to keep in mind. How many innocent people were killed and for what ?

I wish I could take dadi Maa to her hometown Rawalpindi.
I have had to live away from Rawalpindi for years- not for reasons as painful as hers- but I do understand the yearning one has for one's native town.
Hugs for dadi Maa.

I don't know why the people here in comment section start accusing nd cursing each other( India &Pak) ....the real idea was to make us understand the how horrible the situation was then....how hatred raised in place of friendship..how HUMANITY was killed by partition..

This partition should ever have happened. I think a lot of people have been brainwashed by hatred. I've come across young people... youth of Indian and Pakistani origins that hate each other. So sad.

Seeds of Indian partition started in the mind of an ambitious lawyer called Jinnah and supported by the British Raj to use this idea to divide India before their exit. It was half heatedly accepted by Mahatama Gandhi & Jawaharlal Nehru to keep peace and not have riots before independence, but they were wrong. Rest is in the history pages. My family was not directly linked to the partition so I don't have horror stories linked to my family's past, but I grew up listening and learning about this massive horror event, greatest massacre in human history. It played a huge role in my own understanding of the sub-continent, its psyche, trusts and mistrusts. The narrative of the partition turned out to be a genocide that no one ever expected. It's still unclear what caused the genocide, who instigated it and why after 70 years of independence the roots of hatred are still getting stronger each and every day. Peace is a day dream between the two communities. It is far and surreal and will remain such as long as hatred and violence based on 2 nation theory, 2 communities that cannot and will not live together continues to be the narrative on both sides of the Radcliffe line.

Good to know that the comments section shows why partition was necessary even in 2020 if something like this was required I'd leave for the place where I'd be secure without any hesitation. Nothing belongs to you and don't take freedom for granted when others have given their lives for it.

The Decision of Partition of India and Pakistan on the basis of Religion caused great set back for the Common People of both side, even today, some people are happy that it was a good decision.I think, only those people who suffered, survived and started from the very beginning, can realise the degree of Unforgettable pain even today, with regards from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India.

Folks, it's true zealots can't feel pain of these elders. Past cannot be changed. But we can bring a good future as youngsters by showing love and respecting each other's culture as well as positive thoughts. If we make our present correct then future will be corrected automatically.
If we still keep fighting through negative comments then how can we get peace which is being seeked by everyone.?
