Howdy.
Flippin' awesome.
In trade school we rigged an electro magnet to pull on the end of a steel 15 inch ruler. We connected a sturdy mosfet to drive the electro magnet. Finally we used an Omron PID controller to excite the mosfet. The ruler bending was sensed with a reflecting opto-diode-transistor unit. LTH-209-01.
The task was to get the ruler to bend as close as 1 mm from the magnet without snapping on to the magnet.
Really tricky. I seem to remember having reached about 2 mm but not closer. If I remember correctly I used only integration with a very large time parameter.
The setup was inherently very escalating. One could see the ruler sway getting closer to the magnet. And monitoring the controller output one could observe it swinging violently using derivation too.

Working on a similar project using a touchscreen for input, a Teensy 4.0 for CPU and Fuzzy Logic for the control algorithm.

Hey fellow cal poly bronco. I am also working on the same project for my controls class. Do you think you can help me with some of the coding? I'm having trouble transferring the numbers (that relate to the balls relative position) from the pixy CMUcam5 to the Arduino uno board. Looks great! What kind of filter did you use? My program is already working, however, the program/servos are really "nervous" and I don´t know which filter to use.
