My process is vastly different.
It starts with the body wood, its gain pattern, and weight.
I tend to build mostly swamp ash, and it takes time to find a one piece body, that’s interesting grain wise, and sub 4 pounds.
The rest falls into place.
Based on what year I am after, 52, 57, 59, what ever, the year sets the way the neck is built, solid maple for early 50s, or 59-60 a Brazilian rosewood slab, or what ever was used historically for that year, same with neck shape, and so on…
and the hardware is based again on year. Same with plastics, based on year. Many correct plastics fender doesn’t even make, like 54 Strat styrene, or nitrate green, or the thicker 8 hole white tele guards, but small specialty shops do, it’s not cheep, and it takes time to get this right.
One must have patience to build this way, and you can’t have a solid build time. All my parts orders for the year 2025 were placed months ago, probably have all the parts late first or second quarter of next year!
I build pre cbs style.
And do a better job at it than the custom shop.
And that’s the reason I build, fender can’t build perfectly to pre CBS specs. They are just too big.
I build them because they can’t be purchased anywhere.
Building a partscaster with cheep parts, in the end, just makes for a low cost, and low end guitar, that has horrendous resell value.
Just by a squire if money is an issue.
That said, the learning process, and pride of building something is of value to many, it’s just not something financially sound.
Just my observation after doing this 40 plus years.

Nice job and thanks for doing the video. I’m assuming the pine adds some nice harmonics. :) Beautiful color on the Strat.

Hello Steve, I actually bought a tele. The guitar is growing in me now. Im always a strat player so Im finding it weird that there's no body contour on the tele also the toggle switch is something that I need to get use to. But the tone, Im loving it.

Hello Steve!
Interesting video! I think every guitarist should know how to build partguitar, how it works. Useful video!
I like when people talk about their experience, their tips about guitar life.
Beautiful guitars, waiting for new music!)

I like my partcaster-strat a lot, but what bothers me is a weight of a whole guitar = 3, 8kg. It has a really good&massive brass block and saddles, but i asuume that those 200-300g extra comes from a wooden parts. Are hevier wooden parts good or bad(cheep)?

This is a very interesting, informative and well presented video....it has told me a lot of what I needed to know, one question, did you drill the string holes through the body, or was this done as part of the kit? Thanks.

No way am I paying for "Fender licensed" parts so I can make an Ikea guitar that costs as much as 2 or 3 American Player strats. A build like that poses no challenge or opportunity to problem solve. What connection do you have with the final product? A real build is when some of your parts don't work together and you have ingenuity like Leo did when he created his guitars. That's how you build something unique that nobody else will ever have. Not throwing cash at someone to get you 90% to the finish line.
