This is seriously huge for the Olympians, they deserve compensation for the sacrifices that being the best in the world can come with.

The medals in this Olympic are probably more worthy than before because there's a part of the Eiffel tower in each one

It would be nice if the US would pay their olympic athletes a wage for training. That way they aren't working 2 jobs and living out of their cars.

It’s still criminal how underpayed Olympic athletes are compared to prize athletes like boxers

Look at how much Hong Kong is paying their gold medalists. 6million HKD for gold

The raw materials don't matter the medal it's self is worth a lot because it's an Olympic medal they aren't exactly common.

That is true about almost all sporting trophys. The value of the trophy itself is low. The value in the trophys and medals is the efforts it takes to win them.

US Olympic athletes are also generally sponsored by a brand or have a scholarship from a major university

In the case of the Basketball team for example they’re all already millionaires

The Olympics is a sham. Exploitation legalized. Imagine how much money gets generated by the games and none of those goes to the athletes. So where does the money go to? Where have the money been going to?

The worst part is olympic gold medals haven't been made of gold for about a century

It really depends the countries, if you compete with the US, you don’t win as much money, since the US always wins a couple of golds, but if you win a gold for a countrie that has never won one, then you could earn way more money.

I had no idea gold medals weren’t gold but gold plated. Never bothered to look or check mean thinking about the size of it the medal would be worth a fortune if it was even 10k but I had no idea
