Excellent, heartbreaking documentary. I have seen thousands of images of Famagusta, from the past and present. It is where I grew up. Seeing the human side is this video with people from Famagusta and witnessing their pain and loss was extremely emotional and very moving.

I visited Cyprus in 2007, it is terribly sad this beautiful part of Cyprus is still cut off, people’s rightful homes. Unimaginable pain, everything these individuals worked for. There will never be justice for the years lost but at least return the properties to the families. It maybe politics but above all it is people’s lives. Irrespective of who governs the country the homes were hard fought and built by real people.

I can entirely relate to what the people in this documentary are going through. My grandfather was a Dodecanese Turk from Kos (Istanköy). He had to leave his home with nothing but a few pieces of clothing in 1944 due to WW2 and came to Turkey as a refugee. However, as the tensions between Greece and Turkey intensified, he was denied a visa to visit Kos for 45 years. The only way he could see his hometown and relive his past was through a pair of binoculars from the opposite coast in Bodrum. When he was finally able to visit Kos in the late 1980s, what he saw was utterly different from what he had left behind. His house was occupied by a different family and their farmland was appropriated with new houses built upon. While we (Turks and Greeks) kept fighting on opposite sides, the pain and suffering were mutual. I just hope for peace between the two nations and for a reunited Cyprus.

I came across this video and I’m glad I did. I’m Turkish Cypriot born and raised in England. Me and my husband have been in talks about moving to Cyprus and building a life there. The war in 1974 was way before my time.( I’m born in 1992) . I feel so sad for the families who have had to flee their part of the country leaving all their belongings and memories behind. I honestly think this part of the country should be given back to the residents who once lived there regardless of it being on the ‘Turkish ‘ side. I really hope that we all come together as one and live together in peace. I believe this is possible as I have grown up with Greek Cypriots here in England and they are lovely people !!

A very sad and thought provoking video.... having seen Famagusta from across the border, to sitting on the beach many times by the empty decaying city I have had a big interest in this place and a hope it would be returned to its owners... this report captures it perfectly especially the hurt the famagustians have....hoping these dreams can come true

The results of Turkish brutality...a vibrant Greek city died in their hands. All the houses, schools, libraries, churches, hotels were heavily looted by the Turkish army. Then they left the city to die instead of letting it's lawful inhabitants to return home....

As a Turkish speaking Cypriot born and raised in Ammochostos, all my life I had been living with the traumatising remains and ruins of Varosha. Watching this has made me cry my eyes out as all my childhood I have been imagining the life before '74. I always thought about how people's lives been disrupted and destroyed, now seeing this real life story makes me feel even more furious. I cried from beginning to the end. Everyone should see this. Wish there were turkish translations for those people who live in cyprus but dont know enough greek or english. So they could be more emphatic. What has happened here in Cyprus is a brutal tragedy which should be resolved. As Cypriots we belong to this island and deserve to live in a united peaceful Cyprus.

My heart is with the displaced souls of this beautiful paradise. Your your fight is not in vein. I pray that one day you will be able to return to your home.

Anybody who does not shed a tear, for people who carry this pain for 46 years, does not have a scrap of human values, this is about rights, deep in their hearts, of the town, which gave them birth, and Turkey took away, their happiness, their youth.

I love and miss Cyprus very much and the last time I went I visited famagusta and stood right next to that chain link fence on the beach and it breaks my heart to think of all those displaced famagustons. All my life these poor people just want to go home. Heartbreaking just Heartbreaking.

I am very sad about what happened in this area. I didn't understand what the lady meant at the end of the movie when she said that what had happened in the previous three days was so terrible?

This could be a magnificent tourist destination. Give this city some sort of extraterritorial status under UN-rule, and put a good architect on this renovation project, who uses the concept of time capsule and decay as guides for renovation. History should remain visible. Preserve where possible, consolidate ruins and subtle insertion of new buildings. Someone like David Chipperfield (Neues Museum Berlin renovation)

I feel the pain of the Famagustians. May peace find a place in your hearts.
