Californian here. I grew up surrounded by people who worked in the ForService and CalFire. Both of my parents have worked on the ground and in management and logistics in the FirService. My dad was called the night these fires started and drove 12 hours across the state to fight! And so did many, many service members. Everything people are saying about poor management is extremely hyperbolic. These service members are legitimately fighting a war against nature, and they work 24/7 there isnt a moment where fire fighters aren't fighting. They are true american heros defending their fellow Americans. There is so much misinformation about wildfires and fire fighting in california that it is absolutely unbelievable to me.

I can’t tell you exactly how irate I am when hearing the right praise firefighters except if they’re “a DEI hire.” I’m the son of a Chicano firefighter who retired as a captain. I used to have panic attacks at night when I was a kid thinking he might die in these fires. I can’t imagine kids today going through those same feelings AND having to hear their parent be degraded while working an admirable occupation. It’s disgraceful, engaging, and I wish those who follow this train of thought an eternity of wet socks.

Thank you for trying to clean up this sewer of misinformation. As somone who was BORN and RAISED in California, there is no way I chose to live on a natural disaster land. And as a gen z I don't have any money to live somewhere else. I love my state and want to protect the people in it, not run away like a jerk! And it's a NATURAL DISASTER not one person's fault. The Santa Ana Winds have always been destructive but not always followed by fire

I'm exhausted with how everyone just thinks fire hydrants are taps to an unlimited water supply. Water is a finite resource and these fires are HUGE. There's no municipal water system in the world that could handle fires like this. And I didn't have to be the kid of a firefighter to know that. I mean, I am, but that's not why I know this. In Brazil, the law ensures that if you take out a real estate mortgage, it must include mandatory fire insurance. Losing the property due to a natural disaster and continuing to pay for it is unjust enrichment for the financial institution.
