The bird scissors are sewing snips. Originally midwives had clamps they used to help in birth and at some point they began to look like storks, then small scissors used for sewing also started to get the bird design. I had to look it up one time after looking at a ton of antique sewing kits.

LMFAO.... That's like, ancient design. It's a stork. It's because midwives would sew or embroider while waiting for the delivery, they used them to cut the cord AND snip threads. Most sewists/textile artists still have them out of tradition.
