Mamey Sapote | Pouteria sapota | Growing at the fruit farm 2021

Hello everyone, in today's video we are going to take a look at our mamey sapote (Pouteria sapota).

This variety of Mamey is called "Pumpkin Pie" which produces very sweet tasting mamey very similar to pumpkin pie taste.

The 'Pumpkin pie' variety mamey is also dwarf mamey, meaning that at the size that it is I am surprised it has started to flower - I hope to set fruit this summer on the mamey.

The mamey stands about 5ft tall but I believe within a year it will grow above me easily.

The mamey tree is now budding new flowers and getting ready to push out new growth - It was planted back in December of 2020 so about 3 months ago (From today's date March 7th, 2021)

This mamey sapote was purchased in West Palm Beach from my friend Leaph.

I grew a mamey from seed. It's about 6 feet tall now, but with only a central trunk, no branches. I'm wondering if I should prune it somehow to make it branch? The tree is doing great otherwise.
