Got this hinge closer with zero instructions and decided to search the tube before sending it back to Zon and Dustin absolutely nailed it--works like a charm--my cat can open the door from both sides by setting the tension light so it barely closes--thanks for the tutorial!

Thanks Dustin I'm going to try it I have a similar tool but I can't find the other one My father-in-law put these in years ago for a back patio door and they were hitting the kids so he took the spring adjustment off and now he's passed away and now the kids won't close the damn door and they're teenagers now so I'm trying to figure out how to readjust them and they do not sell any of these at Home Depot and a guy gave me a tool and figured something out that's totally not what you said so thank God it looks pretty easy so I'm going to give it a whirl Thank you!

PS, you should ar could have mentioned that this is a great thing to use if the door is hollow and the trim boards are not flat. Most of the other hydraulic type need a flat surface and the door either need to be metal or those type of screws that sandwich the door.

I am missing the tool to tighten the spring. I have tried using needle nose pliers with round tips and they kind of work, but I'm not strong enough to hold it with one hand. Do you have any suggestions of something I could use instead?

Hi. The problem I’m having is as I tighten, the piece with the “teeth” to the right spins as I’m adding more tension. When I put the pin in and try to manually push it back to the door, it goes right back! Any ideas?
