How to increase or decrease the volume of audio files with Audacity. In this tutorial, I show you how to easily change the volume of any audio file with Audacity. This means you can make audio/music louder or quieter to meet your needs for free. Use gain to change the volume of audio with Audacity:
1. Open Audacity and load the audio file that you want to edit.
2. Use the meter on the left side of the audio track to increase or decrease the gain of your audio file.

Use amplification to change the volume of audio with Audacity:
1. Open Audacity and load the audio file that you want to edit.
2. Use the Selection tool to select the area of audio that you want to amplify.
3. Now in the menu select Effect.
4. Under Effect, select Amplify.
5. Now enter the amount of amplification to add. Keep in mind that too much amplification can cause distortion.

The only way of increasing the audio in the above clip without distorting the audio...is by (1) Taming the larger peaks and bringing them down to other size peaks or by (2) using Compressor Effect. Be aware that by increasing the volume doesn't necessarily mean that your audio will sound louder when uploaded to YouTube....You Tube have their own loudness normalization settings....That is why it's so important to use the Loudness Normalisation Effect in Audacity as your final effect before uploading to YouTube.

Thanks again. The first time used the quick fix with the gain and it turned out well. This time I hit the talk over mic button on accident in the middle of my set so I had to use the amplifier method. Worked great. One tip I could figure out why it would not let me select amplify after I created my selection of the audio I wanted, then i realized you cant have the play or pause button engaged.

Thanks was very help full. I used to use abelton and protools and acid but it's been like 20 years and I was horrible at it then anyway. Wish we had YouTube back then.
