RETRO REVIEW: Mac OS 10.1 Puma on iMac G4

Let's explore the roots of Mac OS X. Mac OS X 10.1 (Puma) was the version that was shipped was the Operating System installed by default on Macintosh computers of that time.

Before that, Mac OS 9 was used primarily and Mac OS X was considered like an experiment.

It's interesting to go back in time to understand what software (and hardware) innovations brought us to the world that we live in now.

It was also called the version of Mac OS X that was actually usable and stable enough to be used daily.

The point of the comment box when inspecting a file or folder is to be able to annotate something useful about that specific object. It's just an option to have a note "attached" to the very object, and not written down someplace else where it could be lost.

The design was called Aqua, which as it says, is supposed to resemble water in different forms. This was new to Mac OS X, and not found in Mac OS 9 or prior.

I find it funny that Apple still included Adobe's Acrobat Reader while touting Mac OS X's advanced PDF capabilities, like super fast rendering.

Explorer used to open up to apple.com/startpage. It no longer exists but it used to feature some news items and links and news about apple products.

Hi, I am mostly a PC person, using Linux and Windows. What I think, and please correct me if I am wrong, is that the G4 is able to use the Classical Mac OS's before 10 due to the CPU being a Motorola Chip? This is the last MAC that is able to use the Classical version of MAC, since the MACS after this are using the Intel Chip? Considering the speed of the CPU of the G4, (700 MHz I think), what is the most recent version of OS/X can work on the G4 comfortably.? The Classic MAC OS before OS/X was pretty interesting. I am a lot like you since I am interested in the Vintage Computing and Operating Systems. Which is the best Apple G4 System to get?
