The ULTIMATE SHOELACE KNOT // Berluti Surgeon Knot

This is now my favourite ultimate shoelace knot for hiking and general footwear!

You're not kidding about it being a knot that won't come untied until you are ready to untie it yourself.

One important thing many people overlook, is to make sure your first granny/double granny is tied in the opposite direction of the top slip knot, which ever one you decide to use. If both are tied in the same direction, say starting with right over left, the final knot is much weaker overall.

The knot looks like a square knot with double twists instead of single, very secure. I will try it. I have been using a knot that starts out the same way with one lace going under the other twice to provide the secure initial anchor, then tying just one side with a loop like a traditional shoe lace knot but with only one bunny ear, leaving a longer lace on the other side. Then make a bunny ear out of that longer other lace, and knot it with the other bunny ear as if tying a conventional shoe lace knot. It's a sort of half-double knot, but you can untie it by pulling on the loose, non-bunny ear ends of the laces, unlike a double knotted shoe lace knot.

I've been tying something similar for a few years. I only pass the first ear and lace end through the center hole. I guess it's a half Berluti knot. It seems to hold as tight as a full Berluti knot.
