Why RuneScape's Biggest Expansion Failed (OSRS)

RuneScape has had a lot of updates. Its no shock that not all of them are amazing. Today we look at why Old School's biggest update completely flopped.

We give Jagex a lot of shit all the time, but the Oldschool team really did pull through in an amazing way here. Massive update got polled and when the release wasn't what players thought it would be, it was reworked and it still continues to receive updates to make it better. I don't know of a single other game publisher that comes close to this kind of interaction with the players.

I love zeah as it is currently, but it would have been cool to see it the way reach intended. The whole "Factions at war" thing would have been interesting to take part in, and seeing NPCs treating you differently based on your faction choice would have been pretty cool.

Zeah is honestly so cool. There's even a Zeah only ironman community. Such a great land.

Mod Reach was fired due to real world trading. Mod Mat K confirmed it about a week ago on the osrs podcast.

I still don't get why they haven't updated nightmare zone and moved it to an island off the coast of Lunar Isle.

I’m glad that Zeah didn’t get the Uber quest on release. No way the first ever Uber quest in old school is going to take place on a completely brand new continent. However, the new story line is getting good especially with a kingdom divided. I’m excited to see where the lore goes

I think there should be a quest that unlocks a second home teleport to Zeah. Not RS3 style home teleport to every location in the game, but having easy access between the two continents would make it more accessible and more worth while. I like the continent, it’s just always a pain to get to and I’m always demotivated to go there whenever a clue or quest takes me there.

This content was actually pieced well together in the end, I just hope the person who inspired the new Zeah was rewarded handsomely.

I decided to pick up rs again during twisted league, and getting to explore zeah for the first time like that left a great feeling. Been playing pretty steady since then. And these improvements lately have been the cream of the crop, shazien looks amazing now, probably the best looking place in game imo

Not even kidding I was on a longer break since I had graduated and worked a few years and had a kid since graduating and when mobile beta came out on Android, I cannot tell you how awesome Zeah and Kourend was and still is. Farming guild, wc guild, kourend slayer dungeon, and lizard men and so much more. I’ve always liked it

The biggest thing I like to see them work on is finishing previously unfinished content. Hopefully menaphos/desert is next on the list, along with While Guthix sleeps, part 3 of sea slug, part 3 of fairy tale, and others

I started playing OSRS last month, and Zeah is a really fun region to explore. The quests on Zeah have interesting fights, it has a nice dungeon, and visually it looks really nice(still old school but modernized), the farming guild with the Hespori fight is fun, and sand crabs were an awesome spot to level early game. I don't have the stats to do raids yet, but there is so much new content that I'm looking forward to. I hated getting Lovakengj favour though.

I think the fact it is now the most popular area for player too make an area locked ironman account speaks volumes to just how much its been improved since then

They need to add a wilderness section to Zeah.
And a quest line about the 3rd Age and the God Wars since they caused the death of the Wilderness

Zeah really made a nomans sky turnaround

Today, its a major success and is loved. Brimmed with content, has interesting lore, and will now get a huge expansion that looks good!
