Scary times as a trainee pilot on winch launches! Especially so with the unexpected cable break at 500ft. Mercifully made the right decisions and made a good landing! All this in a K13 at Lasham. Went solo on aerotow to 2000ft a few days later. Fun times!

Oh the nostalgia! Grew up on winch launches, flying cloth & pipe Ka7 and Ka8’s, many cable breaks, many days of splicing the broken cable back together again, just to get back up again. Good memories😊

My first solo flight in a glider off a winch launch, in 1983, was only 600 feet, less than 200 m. It was in an old Wood and Canvas glider. But the thrill was amazing.

I only know winch launch up to 300m or 400m at good wind condition, but that was in the early 90ies in a steel, wood and fabric glider twinseater.
730m must be a long cable and powerful winch. 😊🇫🇷

Winsch is just wonderful. But our winsch-truck only take us to aprox. 400-500 meters. We use it mostly for training new students.
