2019 Honda CRF450L First Ride Review

It’s the dirt bike with plates that everyone’s been asking for. Spurgeon travels to the Pacific Northwest to get a first ride review on Honda’s hotly anticipated CRF450L, and it delivers. From single track, to dual track, to fire roads, Honda’s 450 promises a good time without being too hardcore. To get all Spurgeon’s thoughts on Team Red’s new ride, head over to Common Tread and get the full story.

This bike looks awesome, but I don't regret buying the 250 Rally. Those maintenance schedules just don't work for me.

I just traded my 2018 crf 250L for the 2019 crf 450L .... and WOW! I couldn’t be happier! What a bike! You really can’t compare the 2, apples and grapes.

I paid the same for my 2017 Husqvarna 701. If this were a few grand cheaper I'd consider downsizing to one.... These vids have kick ass editing btw.

To all the spec sheet jockeys out there who think that this bike or that bike is better than the CRF450L - have you ridden one yet? If not, what do you really know besides some numbers? Motorcycles are so much more than a power to weight ratio. They all have strengths and weaknesses that define their character.

I need to move out west for some proper trails.

Spurge, I didn`t realize how large the top half of your head is without the facial hair, lol. Great review of this bike. Honda has another winner in that niche.

It would be on my radar if it weren't for the price. The CRF250 is $5, 149, this CRF450 is $10, 399, and the Africa Twin is $13, 499. To me, it's way overpriced. It's more than double the 250 and almost as much as the Africa Twin. If I'm spending that kind of money, I might as well just buy the Twin. Definitely would feel wrong spending that much money on a 450 dual sport, at least to me anyway.

I just bought this bike today! Can't wait to take it out on its first trails tomorrow! I live in the PNW so this video just made me stoked 🤘

Yes, us PNW guys have it good. Jesse has rides set up a summer long. 60+ mile long single tracks, ATV, jeep trails, we got em all with spectacular views.

600 mile oil change is the deal breaker for me. I'm way too lazy to do multiple oil changes a season. If they made a 450L with long service intervals, or even made a 250L with an aluminum frame version so that it's not so heavy, it would be amazing.

Glad you enjoyed our riding, GP is a fun place to ride! Sat on the 450L yesterday. Very slim and looks extremely well thought out . It's going to NEED an IMS or Clarke bigger tank though to satisfy the guys wanting to extend range.

As a riding noob, I just don’t know how you’re driving that fast on that wet road. I’d be crapping myself so viciously.

Man, I wish the CRF250L had that frame.

Lemmy and Spurge make the best motorcycle review videos I've seen.

Finally got my 2002 XR650R street legal in Nebraska after years and years of trying (bought a titled frame out of state). The 650R runs as strong today as the day I bought it off the showroom floor. Valves adjustment and oil changes are all I needed to do. Wish Honda would have put an electric start on the 650 motor and put it in the new 450L frame. That would have made an EPIC dualsport. Wouldnt want the maintenance or rebuild times of the 450 motor. Hell I just took the 650 to Moab and did multiple 300 mile days on the jeep trails.

Nice review, I've got a 250 rally and will be looking to upgrade eventually to the 450 :)

I live in Oregon and have the crf250L. I would love to trade up to the 450... but not for the same Price as a KTM...
alot of my fellow riders have the same Issue. if honda would make this an 8k-9k bike they would double the sales
