Feathers, Swirls and Wavy Lines Custom Quilting Maple Leaf Log Cabin

I had so much making Maple Leaf Log Cabin come to life with quilting.

I love quilting log cabin blocks because they give you the opportunity to help separate the background and scrappy prints with your quilt design choices. Then throw in a maple leaf block in the center and a border, and the possibilities are endless.

I chose a feather design for the borders and the scrappy half of the maple leaf log cabin. It is much easier than quilting features because you're just quilting wavy lines that come together at a spine, but the final look also gives off a wow factor.

You can see me quilt two types of feathers, one with a singular spine for the border and one with a thicker spine with two sides in the log cabin blocks.

Then I quilted the background using a tight swirl pattern. This beginner-friendly stitch is great when you have a little bit of fabric to ease in, and I did on this quilt. It looks great in the end.

Lastly I wrapped it up with some wavy lines in the maple leaves to help them look like veins traveling through the leaves.

I like that you didn't quilt down the background of the leaves. It make the leaves the focal point. Different levels of puff gives depth.

Thanks for the tutorial, I love this quilt and will definitely download the pattern (can’t buy the kit as I’m in the uk 🇬🇧) I love all your free motion quilting and you’ve given me the confidence to quilt on my normal sewing machine as u say nature isn’t perfect so all my hiccups are fine lol 😆
