@kahnkanter Okay so 550D is a crop sensored DSLR where as a 5D is a full framed DSLR. The sensor is what picks up the light and makes your photo/video. compact cameras have about half the size sensor as a crop sensored DSLR. Which is why there's such a big quality difference. Full frame DSLR can go to higher ISO levels so they can take better photos in lower/bad lighting situations.
Because 550D is cropped with a magnification of 1.6 that means that a 30mm lens is actually worth 48mm.

Heya! It's amazing. I've pretty much never taken it off my DSLR. I use it for most of my shoots (thedantayDOTcom)! I mainly use it in auto focus actually lol In other words, I'd def recommend it to you! :D The only down side to it is it doesn't really work with full frame DSLR's but it's great for crop sensors! Hope that helps!

@kahnkanter Okay so for the soft focusing. Take your time. Because u know it can be off focus, what I do is set my focusing points to the center and use that to focus on whatever the object is and then move the camera once I've focused. Make sure u have the correct aperture settings for the surroundings and ur focusing should be correct. Worst case in low lighting u'll have to switch over to manual focus and move from that.
No space to reply. Will have 2 reply u in separate posts per questions.

Hey! You mentioned overcoming the tendency for soft focus - so how did you overcome that..? Oh...and what's the difference between full frame or not full frame DSLRs..? So Canon 550D isn't full frame? And one last thing...are you using a teleprompter (e.g. through an ipad app)? Or is it that you've gotten really good at talking to the camera :)?

U said u brought it in may ;ast year in the video...so it must have crossed over 2 years now. How is the lens performing now in terms of focusing (both front focusing and back focusing)?
Does it have a hard time trying to focus generally in auto focus mode?

@dantayvid Thanks for your detailed replies! I'm not too sure about full frame still but it doesn't matter too much for the time being. thanks :)

@kahnkanter if you then bring over a 50mm to a crop sensored DSLR, that technically means it's a 80mm lens. I hope this is making sense. LOL
Teleprompter: I actually just use a script. If you look closely there's quite a few cuts in the video. That's my chance to read up on the script. It's all about knowing what you're talking about and you inturn say less "Ums" etc. but yeah teleprompters are awesome, used them in uni. But I do have to say, I'm getting so much more confident when talking!

Hey Justin! I like both 24-70 &30mm1.4 of course. I've used both and they're great. BUT u get different photos from these lenses. The 30mm prime will get you some great shots in low light & is really good for portraits (Check out my website thedantayDOTcom for test shots with it). I would easily be able to sell the shots I took with the 30mm. The 24-70 is a great zoom lens. MUCH better than the Kit. Itcan get some really decent shots. So I don't know if I can help u decide, cause I love both!
