Just a quick question. Is it possible for us to use ratio test on every series except the ones which L=1? because i find it's simple just to memorize this test rather than thinking about using other test.

question! ... if it were any other number besides (-1)....would you still be able to ignore it?

The problem with using the geometric series test is this: the form must be a*r^n, where a and r are constants. In the case of that problem, you have n*(5/4)^n, where n is changing at each increment in the series. So, the geometric series test is not applicable. Nice try though!

If the terms are positive why do we need the absolute value?
