One of The WORST Great White Shark Attacks of All Time!

Fishing is one of the oldest pastimes in human history and is present in every corner of the globe. Large-scale, commercial fishing is one form of fishing that keeps entire economies afloat in the world, but that comes with its risks. From lines ripping off entire limbs to getting digits frozen off in frigid gales, commercial fishing is extremely dangerous. Another risk of the practice also lies under the surface. The first story we have today is about Robert Dean, a seasoned fisherman with years of experience who met a tragic end at the jaws of a very hungry and angry great white shark.

Spent my childhood at the Jersey Shore as my Grandparents had a Home there. I was always teased mercilessly by Cousins & Siblings because I never wanted to go "ride the waves". All it took for me was getting tossed & rolled once by a big Wave to realize the power of the Ocean and that we people are nothing more than driftwood. The rare & few times I tried a Raft to float around behind the Waves, I ALWAYS had the sensation of a Sting Ray or Shark just scooting along beneath me. Dark Atlantic Water makes it easy to imagine that.
While I loved driving the Boat around the Bay, I also refused to go out Fishing in the Bay Channels and Ocean. I found nothing exciting hearing Family Stories about "Sharks" on the Lines or some following the Boat.
I didn't have Fear, I just have great Respect for the Ocean. I loved being around it, walking along the Beach or simply sitting in a low Chair at the water line. I love the Timeless, changeless feeling the Ocean brings. But I've always known where I belong & that is "By the Sea", just not IN it.

Playing fetch with steak in the ocean has got to be one of the top 10 dumbest things people have ever done.

I read something once that said “swimming in the ocean, is like jogging in a field of lions” 😂 never heard a truer statement

If you want to avoid a shark attack, stay OUT of their territory, plain and simple

Anyone who dresses in a black diving suit, that resembles a seal, then goes in the water, is nuts.

People who have had limbs removed from sharks say they don’t feel pain just a tugging or pulling sensation. Amazing how human body works! Adrenaline takes over

I understand that surfing must be a love of the sport for those who participate in that kind of thing, but what I don't understand is the willingness to take the risk when so many have lost limbs and even their very lives to do it. Is it really worth the risk? I just don't get it. I love sharks. They are fascinating creatures and essential to ecology, but truly, I am too deathly afraid of them to risk dying that way.

In Australia they have steel fenced in inlets for swimmers. We should have them in the US too

Glad Jacqueline made it. She’s the one person that didn’t want to go.

The only reason sharks don't regularly hunt human prey is because we humans are a landbound species.

The Jetty's in New Smyrna Beach, Fl is an area known for many shark incidents. It's an inlet where the ocean meets the river so there's more food sources for sharks to eat, which is why many fishermen, fish off of the jetty's. If you swim in that area, chances are you'll have an accidental encounter with a shark. Acting stupid in this area will raise your chances significantly!
