Downwind Mast Length, I sized up.

I now use the Lift 32' M2 mast, for all foil disciplines; downwinding, Winging, Kite, tow, and wake. When downwind foiling, I find the extra length is more forgiving. I can turn harder, because the foil breaches less. Which results in less wipeouts. You can still get a wing tip out on turns if you want though. Does the lack of wipeouts make up for the lost efficiency?
I havent noticed to much difference when paddling up on foil, the same effort is required regardless of mast length.
