Is the Jacquard Poly harmful when cooking it at home on the standard stove in the kitchen. The steam smells a bit strange. Is the steam unhealthy?

I am just comparing with Rit dye where they say if you want a darker shade then we have to use more dye. Does that apply to idye as well?

I would like to dye two pairs of jeans. They are mostly cotton, but they have some spandex as well. Do I use the iDye natural or iDye Poly? Also, they are light blue. I'd like to dye one pair a dark, chocolate brown. Can I just put them in a dark brown dye bath, or do I have to bleach them first? I would like to dye a second pair a very dark army/olive green. Would I add black to the olive green iDye? Dark brown? How much? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
